II Fire Engineering Conference - FIRE 2012, Valencia (Spain). 25-26 October 2012

Summary:

Fire protection engineers are using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools in order to develop more accurate designs. In this work, Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS) is used to model two experimental tests, under natural ventilation, of an axisymmetric pool fire of 1.36 and 2.34 MW in a full scale atrium located in Murcia (Spain). A model of the atrium with a higher flat roof, preserving the same volume, is compared with the original pyramidal roof in order to assess its effect on the temperature field. Simple models could be valid for design purpose of atrium geometries when the shape of the mesh is restricted and could be a source of difficulties.
